#MeToo: Solar scam accused Saritha S Nair alleges Oommen Chandy, KC Venugopal of sexual harassment
In a series of allegations against influential people, two new names have been added. The crime branch of Kerala Police registered a case of sexual harassment against former chief minister Oommen Chandy and MP K C Venugopal on Sunday. The complaint was filed by Solar scam accused Saritha S Nair.
Confirming the case against the former CM and MP, Director General of Police (DGP) Loknath Behera stated they have registered a case based on the allegations and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter. He said, quoted by PTI, “Let the law take its own course.”
Terming the allegations as ‘politically motivated’, Chandy stated that he would fight this case legally. The former CM alleged that CPI (M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) government has raked up the issue in order to deviate the Sabarimala Temple row.
According to the complaint filed by Nair, Chandy had allegedly sexually exploited her in 2012 at Cliff House, the official residence of then chief minister. Also, she charged Venugopal of rape at the residence of then minister A P Anil Kumar — Rose House.
It is to be known that Nair, along with Biju Radhakrishnan, has been accused in the Solar scam — duping several people of crores of rupees by offering them solar panel solutions. To investigate the matter, then UDF government had instituted the G Sivarajan Commission to examine the allegations.
