India Opener Mayank Agarwal out of the first Test against England on Monday. It was due to a concussion after he was hit on the helmet by a Mohammed Siraj short ball. Mayank Agarwal was hit on the helmet while batting during India’s nets session at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Monday.
The BCCI in a statement today said, “Opening batsman Mayank Agarwal was hit on the helmet while batting during India’s nets session at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Monday,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement today. ”
The BCCI added, “The BCCI Medical Team assessed him, and a concussion test was conducted. He has shown signs of concussion and is ruled out of the opening Test against England. The 30-year-old is stable and will remain under close medical observation.”
If Mayank is unable to play then KL Rahul, who has mostly opened in Test matches could be asked to open. The other option is Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran.
Indian cricket team has been hit by injuries and COVID-19 cases ahead of their match against England. Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan have been ruled out of the series. Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav were added as replacements. But they are in quarantine for 10 days and will be available from the third Test.
