Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson passed away at the age of 61. She was undergoing radiation treatment for her brain tumour. The How Do You Do! the singer lost her 17 year-long battle to cancer. The singer’s family released an official statement to Expressen, announcing the death of one of the most loved and admired singers.
The Swedish star had achieved global success in the 1990s with hits like ‘Joyride’, ‘The Look’ and ‘It Must Have Been Love’, from hit flick Pretty Woman featuring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.
The singer was first diagnosed with the tumour when she collapsed in her kitchen following a workout. She lost the vision to her right eye due to it. But after three years of treatment, she was back in the limelight and once again toured with Roxette from 2008 to 2016. But following a recurrence of “her previous illness”

In her autobiography, the singer wrote about the impact cancer had on her life. She said in Love Of Life, “At last, it feels like I have reconciled myself to having a radiation injury to live with. That this is how it turned out. I have lost many years through the disease. And it is also a sadness to age. But every day I think I’m grateful to be sitting here. And that I can still sing.”
Fredriksson is survived by her husband Mikael Bolyos and their two children
