Singer Mariah Carey has been sued by her former nanny over unpaid dues, emotional distress, and other damages. Former nanny Maria Burgues is seeking compensation from the 49-year-old global celebrity. Borges claims that she worked for Carey between late 2017 and early 2018. She looked after the singer’s children.
Burgues has filed a lawsuit on Monday claiming that she was fired after complaining about her work conditions. In her lawsuit, the nanny has alleged that she was paid $25 (£19) an hour to look after Carey’s children eight-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe. She also had to travel with them when the singer went on tour – but wasn’t paid for the extra work.
Burgues added that Marcio Moto who is a bodyguard to Carey’s kids used to make her feel threatened by shouting to her.
Burgues added that she was fired in April 2018 after complaining about her pay and working conditions.
A statement was issued by Mariah Carey’s representative that says, “This is a legally and factually baseless claim that will be defended with vigor.”
This is not the only lawsuit faced by Carey. As reported by Variety, Maria Salazar, a former housekeeper had also filed a lawsuit claiming she was not adequately paid.
On the work front, Carey presented a special Christmas gift to her fans on Monday. She shared a new video of some of her celebrity friends singing her holiday hit ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’. The song, which celebrated its 25th Anniversary this year, finally took the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts for the first time. This is Carey’s 19th #1 hit.
