Maratha quota stir: Maratha Kranti Morcha to launch jail bharo andolan from today
Demanding reservations in jobs and education sector for the Marathas, the community is all set to launch a jail bharo andolan in Maharashtra from Wednesday. Spearheading the quota agitation, the Maratha Kranti Morcha has issued an statement regarding this and called for jail bharo andolan.
Though the Maratha Kranti Morcha leaders have called for jail bharo andolan, they ensured that there will no violence or bandh. The protest will take place at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan where a team of 14 members from Maratha Kranti Morcha will spell out their demands.
The Maratha Kranti Morcha have also sought an apology from the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Devendra Fadnavis government for hurting the sentiments of the people. A ruckus was created last Wednesday when the organisation had called for Maharashtra bandh.
Citing a similar situation, the state government has beefed up the security in Mumbai and Devendra Fadnavis has called for peace. On Tuesday, some protesters even staged a “rasta roko” protest on the Aurangabad-Jalgaon road.
According to reports, altogether six people have committed suicide in the ongoing Maratha quota stir. The last reported death was from Vida village in Beed district, where a 35-year-old Abhijeet Deshmukh was found hanging by a tree near his house. Also, eight other demonstrators attempted suicide by setting themselves on fire in Latur district, but it was foiled, said police.
