Maoist on Sunday shot dead Andhra Pradesh legislator Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former MLA Siveri Soma in Visakhapatnam district. Rao was representing Araku constituency and belonged to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
The politicians, Sarveswara and Former MLA Siveri Soma were attacked by the banned CPI (Maoists) near Thutangi village, about 125 km from the coastal city of Visakhapatnam.
The incident took place near Thatangi village, located 125 km from the coastal city of Visakhapatnam. According to the report, scores of maoist participated in the attack, they were shot from point blank range.
The deceased MLA was elected from Araku on Congress Ticket in 2014 defeating Siveri Soma of TDP. The constituency Araku is said to be reserved for the Scheduled Tribes. But, in the year 2016, he had joined the TDP again.
According to the report, “The Maoists used people as human shields and escaped with weapons that the officers present at the event were carrying.”
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who is in the US, offered his condolences to Mr Rao’s family. All elected representatives in the state have been asked to take precautions.
According to the Police, both the politician have received threats from the Maoist in the past.
