Manipur’s Rex Rajkumar Singh scalps 10 out of 10; achieves rare feat of history

Manipur pacer Rex Rajkumar Singh became the latest bowler to take 10 wickets in a single innings

Rex Rajkumar Singh, a young bowler from Manipur scripted history by achieving a remarkable feat of taking 10 wickets in a single inning. The left-arm medium pacer produced a dream spell that saw him register figures of 10/11 in the Cooch Behar Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh.

His devastating spell – in which six out the total 9.5 overs he bowled were maidens – propelled Arunachal to a 10-wicket victory in the four-day U-19 tournament.

The 18-year-old, who made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy, finished with 15 wickets in the match, having already scalped 5/33 in the first essay. The day had started with Manipur resuming their innings at 89/3, but they were bowled out for 122 in response to Arunachal Pradesh’s first-inning score of 138.

Beginning their second innings with a 16-run lead, Arunachal would have been hoping to put a competitive target on board but Rex Singh had other ideas on his mind. The youngster blew apart the entire Arunachal batting line-up giving his batsman only 53-run target to chase.

Manipur had little difficulty in chasing the total with Shunbam Chouhan smashing an unbeaten 32 to help his side chase down the target in just 7.5 overs with 10 wickets to spare.

Rex is, however, not the first player to scalp all 10 wickets in a single innings this season. Sidak Singh of Puducherry had earlier taken all 10 wickets in a single innings against Manipur in the CK Naidu Trophy.
