A middle-aged man allegedly impregnated a minor girl who worked on fields owned by the accused. He made false promises of marrying her before impregnating her but was let off with a Rs 2.5 lakh ‘compensation’ and was then banished by a group of elders in a Telangana village, police said on August 10.
The shocking incident took place on August 1 while arrests were made on Thursday which included the man and four of the six ‘elders’ who held the ‘mediation meet’ at Narayanpet in Mahbubnagar district, police said.
“All the five were produced before a local court which remanded them to judicial custody,” local Sub-Inspector of Police M Krishnaiah said.
Cases under various sections of the IPC, including 376 (rape) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, had been registered, he added.

The police said that the 17-year-old girl worked in the cotton fields to assist her parents.
The accused, identified as Venkataiah, also the owner of the fields, had a physical relationship with the girl and made false promises of marriage which later resulted in the girl becoming pregnant.
The girl’s family came to know about the alleged relation when her mother observed changes in her daughter’s body and took her for a medical examination.
A couple of villagers even offered to mediate between the victim and the accused who then offered Rs 2.50 lakh as compensation to the parents to remain silent.
The police, however, came to know about the incident and registered a case and arrested five people, the SI told PTI.
Another police official added that a written consent was also obtained from the girls family on the alleged ‘settlement’ after which Venkataiah was banished from Narayanpet.
