Malegaon: Man beaten to death when refused to withdraw molestation complaint

A 55-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by seven people for refusing to withdraw a molestation case lodged by his daughter against one of them, PTI reported.

“Four of the seven attackers including Sayyad Sayeed, who allegedly molested victim’s daughter, have been arrested, while police are searching for the remaining accused, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ratnakar Navale told PTI.

Navale said, Sayeed allegedly molested the woman in 2015, the woman lives in a textile town Malegaon. Following molestation, the woman had registered a complaint at Pawarwadi Police station. Since then the case has been pending in Malegaon local court.

An unidentified police official said Sayeed had been harassing the woman’s father and forcing him to withdraw the case, but he did not withdraw the case.

On Saturday night, when Sayeed and some of his accomplices stopped the man while he was returning home on a motorcycle in Malegaon. They allegedly assaulted him with sticks. He suffered severe injuries in the attack and later he succumbed to his injuries, Navale said.

The victim’s son filed a complaint, based on which police arrested four of the accused on Monday. The accused have been booked under Sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 147, 148 (rioting), and other sections of the Indian Penal Code, Navale said.
