Another horrifying incident was reported in Malegaon where a mob mercilessly thrashed four people. It was only after police intervention that they were rescued. This is another incident of mob vigilantism which has come to light in Malegaon in Nashik. A couple was targetted by an angry mob after rumours of them being child kidnappers did the rounds. The couple was saved after quick police action. The police hid the couple in a house to protect them from the mob fury.
A police officer said that the victims are undergoing treatment at a local hospital. However, their condition remains critical.
The incident took place on Sunday at 11.30 pm in Azad Nagar on Ali Akbar road.
According to reports, Malegaon police got a call informing them about a couple with a 2 year old child when a mob gathered outside the building started pelting stones.
However, police quickly rushed to the location and rescued them. Reports said that the couple hails from Parbhani district in Maharashtra.
“Five people including a 2-year-old child was rescued from a violent mob of thousands wanting to lynch them in Malegaon,” tweeted Harssh A Poddar, Additional SP, Malegaon.
“Proud of my team that risked their own lives to save them today,” he added.
Another incident that occured merely a few hours prior in Dhule district’s Rainpada village on Sunday where a mob killed five men after suspecting that they were child abductors.
Maharashtra police had detained 23 people till Monday morning. Videos of villagers brutally beating the motionless, bleeding bodies of the five individuals have also surfaced.
“Strong action will be taken. I appeal to everybody not to believe in posts that are circulated on social media. Law should not be taken in hands,” said MoS Home (Rural) Deepak Kesarkar.
A string of incidents of mob vigilantism causing grave atrocities has been on the rise in the nation.

Last week, a woman beggar was beaten to death and three others were injured after they were allegedly beaten by a mob on suspicion of being a child-lifter.
In June, a man suspected to be child-lifter was beaten to death by mob in Chhattisgarh.
In Maharashtra, two men were beaten to death and seven others were injured after a mob of villagers attacked them on suspicion of being robbers in Chandgaon village in Vaijapur taluka on June 8. The lynching was triggered by fake messages in circulation on the social media.
Earlier last month, in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, two people were pulled out of their vehicle at and beaten to death by a group of irate villagers, who suspected them to be child-lifters on the basis of fake information circulated on social media.

The lynchings in Tripura happened two days after an 11-year-old boy was found dead with cut marks on his body in Mohanpur, just 25 km from state capital Agartala, and false rumours spread that his kidneys had been removed.
