In an unfortunate turn of events, Malayalam actor Kochupadannayil Thai Subramanian aka KTS Padannayil passed away here on Thursday at his residence in Tripunithura, Kerala. He was 88. Reportedly, he was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kochi for an age-related illness.
He was one of the prominent supporting actors in the late 1990s in Malayalam movies. He has acted in more than 50 movies. KTS Padannayil, popularly known as Padanna.
He was born as the youngest of six children to Kochupadannayil Thai and Maani at Thekkumbhagam, Thrippunithura, Kochi in 1933. He has acted on thousands of stages within 40 years. He performed at different drama troupes like Jayabharath Nithakalalaya, Chenagassery Geetha, Vaikom Malavika, Kollam Tuna, and Attingal Padmasree. He also trained the members of the Children’s Society at Kannankulangara in acting.
In a career spanning around 13 years, he has acted in more than 60 films and has so far starred in more than one hundred television comedy serials.
He first acted and directed amateur drama ‘Vivaha Dallal’, at Trippunithura Khadibhavan’s Amber charkha spinning mill’s Annual day celebration. He made his debut in the movie ‘Aniyan Bava Chetan Bava’ in 1995. Later, he was seen in many hit movies including ‘Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshathrathilakam’, ‘Vaamanapuram Bus Route, ‘Adyathe Kanmani, Kunjiramayanam’, ‘Rakshadhirakari Baiju.’
