Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded a massive spike in daily covid-19 cases. The state has reported over 13,500 new infections in the last 24 hours. This spike takes the total number of cases in the state to 22,52,057. 54 virus-related deaths take the total number of fatalities in the state to 52,610.
Mumbai recorded 1,539 new COVID-19 cases, taking the city’s COVID-19 tally to 3,37,123. Five fatalities were reported in the city in the last 24 hours, raising the toll to 11,511.
Amid the surge in cases, Mumbai’s civic body, BMC has informed that out of 23 thousand new COVID-19 cases 90 per cent of cases were from housing societies. The remaining 10 per cent are from slums.
The BMC has decided to strictly implement the measure against COVID-19 in housing societies of Mumbai. In the new norms set for Mumbai. The Residential building will be sealed for any movement if more than 5 people were diagnosed with the coronavirus. Buildings with less than 5 patients of COVID-19, only floors which have positive COVID-19 patients will be sealed for movement. Police cases will be registered against the violators and against those who skip home quarantine. Those who violate home quarantine norms will be compulsorily shifted to institutional quarantine.
Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu have accounted for 83.76 per cent of the 17,921 cases of COVID-19 reported in the country in a day. India reports 1,12,85,561 total cases and 1,58,189 death toll.
