Maharashtra: One loses life at Chinchoti waterfall in Vasai

On Saturday, 7th July 2018, a picnicker died at Chinchoti waterfall in Vasai, Palghar district, following heavy rain. There were also 60 others who were suspected to be trapped but rescued later.

Around seven picnickers were rescued on the Air Force’s helicopters. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the fire brigade and the local police were still mounting rescue operations at the time of responding to press.

“The rescue operation is underway. The NDRF has taken over the operation,” said Palghar’s District Collector Prashant Narnavare.

The waterfall is said to be a popular tourist destination during the monsoon, is in Tungareshwar forest, over 70 km from Mumbai. Sources said the level at the waterfall rose rapidly in the afternoon following heavy rain, leaving a large number of people stranded.
