In the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra’s Nagpur. The state government has announced a complete lockdown in Maharashtra’s city from March 15 to 21. Only essential services such as vegetable shops and milk booths will remain open during the lockdown. Medical stores and other emergency services will continue to be exempted from the restrictions
Nagpur Guardian Minister Nitin Raut said, “Complete lockdown to remain imposed in Nagpur City Police Commissionerate area from March 15 to March 21. Essential services will continue. The lockdown will be imposed in all the areas that fall under the Nagpur Police Commissionerate”.
The decision to impose lockdown in Nagpur was taken during a meeting at the Divisional Commissioners office. This decision comes amid a recent spurt in the number of coronavirus cases in the area. In the last 24 hours, around 1710 cases of coronavirus infection and eight deaths were reported from Nagpur.
Malls and weekly markets in the area will remain shut. Public functions and weddings will not be allowed. Restaurants can operate only up to 9 pm. However, they can provide home delivery up to 10 pm.
The Maharashtra government had on Wednesday imposed a night curfew in Kalyan Dombivli and Nandurbar. Dhule district administration called for a four day ‘Janata curfew’ which comes into effect from March 10. The Aurangabad district ordered night restrictions from 9 pm to 6 am from 11 March to 4 Apri.
Maharashtra on Wednesday registered 13,659 new coronavirus cases, with this the state’s caseload rose to 22,52,057. The COVID-19 death toll in Maharashtra stands at 52,610.
