On the fifty-first day of India’s nationwide lockdown to curb the COVID-19, the cases in the nation have jumped by 3,722+ in the past 24 hours, now the sources state that the Maharashtra state government has decided to likely extend the lockdown till May 31, 2020, in order to prevent the extent of the deadly virus.
On Thursday, the decision was taken at a meeting of ministers of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government headed by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
A state government official quoted to PTI and said,“The government expressed its intent to extend the lockdown in MMR, Pune, Solapur, Aurangabad and Malegaon town in Nashik district till May 31. The state’s view will be conveyed to the Centre in writing.”
“In the rest of the state, the guidelines of the Centre will be implemented when they are announced before the lockdown 3.0 ends on May 17,” he continued.
The meeting chaired by Thackeray was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil, Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, Industries Minister Subhash Desai, Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat, and PWD Minister Ashok Chavan.
Earlier, the nationwide lockdown, which was first imposed on March 24, has been prolonged twice, on April 14 and May 4. The third phase will end on May 17. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that lockdown 4.0 will be in the form of new rules rather than living restricted around coronavirus.
