………………………………………………………………………………………………
The ongoing Maratha reservation row in the state is continuing for the second consecutive day and the effects are seen on the streets. Among other outfits, Maratha Kranti Samaj have called for a ‘peaceful’ bandh in the financial capital and other districts like Thane, Palghar and Raigad on Wednesday.
Though in the morning till 9 am, the day was normal, protests are taking place in different parts of the state. Protesters have pelted stones on two Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses near Navi Mumbai’s Ghansoli. Due to this, BEST buses have completely stopped plying from Airoli to Vashi, reports ANI.
Earlier on Tuesday, MNS leader Raj Thackeray had cut short his Marathwada tour due to the bandh called by protesters. The agitation took a violent turn after 26-year-old protester Kakasaheb Shinde jumped in Godavari river on Monday, which led to his death.
“We will observe a peaceful bandh tomorrow. Thane, Navi Mumbai, Raigad to be bandh tomorrow. Schools and colleges will not be included in this bandh as we do not intend to trouble anyone”, Maratha Kranti Samaj official spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Though the Maratha Kranti Samaj had promised to make this protest peaceful, keeping the public transport and educational institutions out of it, it is most likely to have an impact on this too.
