Madras Cafe actress Leena Marie Paul has been arrested by Delhi Police. The actress is held for allegedly helping her boyfriend Sukesh Chandrasekhar in a ₹200 Crore Extortion Case. Sukesh Chandrasekhar, an accused in 21 cases, extorted ₹ 200 crores from a businessman’s wife. Leena Paul is known for her work in films like Madras Cafe and Others.
The police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOCA) Act against the accused. They added that Leena Paul allegedly helped Mr Chandrasekhar in duping former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh’s wife Aditi Singh.
Aditi Singh registered an FIR on August 7. She informed the police that a man posing as a senior official of the Law Ministry in June last year had offered to help her secure bail for her husband. Aditi’s husband was arrested in a money laundering case related to the alleged misappropriation of funds at Religare Finvest Ltd (RFL) in 2019.
The man had demanded Rs 200 crore for getting the work done. He had also asked the money to be transferred to Hong Kong. The money was routed to Hong Kong-based entities, some shell firms. When the victim realised she has been duped she filed a police complaint.
Paul’s boyfriend, Sukesh Chandrasekhar, was arrested from jail along with seven others. A bank manager was also arrested for alleged involvement in the extortion case. An assistant jail superintendent and the deputy superintendent of Rohini Jail were also found involved in the racket. The two jail officials were also arrested.
