Madhya Pradesh: Nigerian researcher sexually harassed, cops arrest accused
Looks like Madhya Pradesh is slowly becoming the centre of molestation and sexual abuse in recent times. The police in the state have arrested a student of Indore’s Devi Ahilya University for allegedly sexually harassing a 35-year old Biotechnology researcher from Nigeria on Saturday.
Briefing about the case, Bhawarkuan Police Station in-charge Sanjay Shukla said, as reported by PTI, that the accused has been arrested following a complaint filed by Nigerian researcher at Takshashila campus located at Khandwa Road late Thursday evening. As per the complaint, the accused — Udham Singh Dohre (22) — allegedly tried to touch the foreign researcher inappropriately after offering her tea.
Soon after the victim recognised the motives of the postgraduate student of Physical Education department of Devi Ahilya University, she managed to run away and take refuge in a professor’s house nearby. Following which, the accused ran from the spot on Thursday, but was arrested on Saturday.
Shukla said, as the news agency reports, “The accused allegedly followed her after she had her tea. After some time, he inappropriately touched the victim who managed to run away and take refuge in a professor’s house nearby. The accused fled the spot.”
Based on the complaint, relevant sections of IPC for sexual harassment and stalking have been registered against Dohre. Police said that the matter is being investigated. While on the other hand, Vice Chancellor Narendra Dhakad said that they have formed a committee and will take appropriate action after the report.
