Madhya Pradesh: Dalit man’s head skinned for wearing turban
A 45-year-old Dalit leader Sardar Singh Jatav’s scalp was allegedly peeled off with a knife by three men of the Gujjar Community for wearing a turban in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district. The incident took place on September 3, and since then, Jatav is battling for life.
According to the report, Sardar Singh Jatav is said to be a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader. The skin of his skull was peeled off by three men for wearing turbans, the party alleged. If the report is believed, three men called Jatav to the residence of Surendra Gurjar, one of the three accused, on some pretext. Later, they started abusing him for wearing a turban and peeled off his scalp using a knife.
“Jatav alleged in his statement said that Surendra Gurjar and his two friends removed the skin of his head with a knife,” said Narwar police station in-charge Badam Singh Yadav. He was seriously injured in the attack and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gwalior. Shivpuri district BSP president Dayashankar Gautam claimed on Monday that Jatav was attacked for “wearing a turban”. He claimed the accused tied up Jatav, who always wore a blue turban after he reached Gurjar’s residence and thrashed him.
According to the report, initially, Police refused to file a complaint against three accused, but later they registered a case. After filing a complaint against three accused, no one has been arrested so far and according to the Police, efforts are on to nab all the three culprits.
Badam Singh Yadav added, “A case of attempt to murder was registered against the three men under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He said a delegation of the BSP submitted a memorandum to Shivpuri superintendent of police on Monday.
