Love Sonia: This story about human-trafficking is hard-hitting

A still from the trailer

The much-awaited trailer of Tabrez Noorani-directorial ‘Love Sonia’ is finally out and it showcases the horror of human-trafficking in our society. It is ‘based on true incidents’ and will leave you speechless. The film premiered and won a lot of accolades at the London Indian Film Festival in June and is now ready to be released in India on September 14.

The film tells a harrowing story of a young girl who is in search of her sister but gets engulfed in the dark world of prostitution and human trafficking.

The title of the film tells a story in itself- Sonia is ready to jump headfast into every battle as she steps into the world of prostitution but she believes that every unprecedented incident will take her close to finding her sister. She signs off with ‘Love, Sonia’ and a promise to get her sister back.

According to a report by NDTV, Manoj Bajpayee, who plays a dalaal in the film said that he hopes that the Central Board Of Film Certification releases Love Sonia without cuts and edits: “I think if Love Sonia will be released without any cuts then whoever will watch it, he or she will get affected and disturbed by the subject of the film. It will make the audience think about that issue so it is necessary to release this film without any cuts so that people will know about women trafficking where small girls are being forced into prostitution.”

The film boasts of an ensemble cast, Richa Chadha, Frieda Pinto, Anupam Kher, Rajkummar Rao, Manoj Bajpayee, Adil Hussain, Sai Tamhankar and popular TV star Mrunal Thakur in titular role.  The film also stars American actor Mark Duplass and Golden Globe Award-nominated actress Demi Moore.

The film is directed by Tabrez Noorani, who also co-produces the film with David Womark and Rakesh Singh.
