Argentina forward Lionel Messi left Barcelona club after an association of 21 years. The star footballer had wept as he bade farewell to his boyhood team. He has now signed a contract with Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentinian has signed a two-year contract with the option of an additional year. The news was announced by the French Club on Tuesday.
Messi arrived in Paris and was greeted by hundreds of PSG supporters who had gathered hoping to catch a glimpse of their new signing. Messi waved to crowds while sporting a Paris t-shirt on his arrival at the airport before being taken for his medical.
PSG quoted Messi as saying, “I am excited to begin a new chapter of my career at Paris Saint-Germain. Everything about the club matches my football ambitions. I know how talented the squad and the coaching staff are here. I am determined to help build something special for the club and the fans, and I am looking forward to stepping out onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes.”
Messi will wear the No. 30 jersey, the same number he wore in his first two seasons with Barcelona. He later switched to No. 19 and then the prized No. 10.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner will join Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. PSG also has veteran Spanish defender Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, the star of Euro 2020. Also Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool, also Achraf Hakimi.
