The match got off to a pretty heated start with East Bengal dominating the initial parts of the match. The Mohun Bagan section of the crowd erupted into joy when Omar’s cross was sent into the back of the net by Azharuddin Mallick in the 13th minute.
Just when Mohun Bagan started to gain momentum in the game, East Bengal equalised against the run of play when Ralte scored from an offside position, which the referee failed to notice.
After some bookings and missed chances, East Bengal took the lead when Jobby Justin netted one from close-range just at the stroke of half-time with a volley.
