Lea Michele was a part of the hit musical comedy-drama series Glee as one of its main cast, Rachel Berry. Much like her on-screen character, Lea has been accused of being difficult on set. Recently, her Glee co-star Samantha Marie Ware made accusations about how difficult Lea Michele made her life on set.
The chain of events started when Lea Michele posted a tweet in support of Black Lives Matter. She had tweeted, “George Floyd did not deserve this. This was not an isolated incident and it must end. #BlackLivesMatter”
However, this did not sit well with her Glee co-star Samantha Marie Ware who called Lea Michele out for making her time on Glee a “living hell” due to “traumatic microaggressions.”
The actor wrote an angry reply, addressing Michele’s behavior. She replied, “LMAO REMEMBER WHEN YOU MADE MY FIRST TELEVISON GIG A LIVING HELL?!?! CAUSE ILL NEVER FORGET. I BELIEVE YOU TOLD EVERYONE THAT IF TOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY YOU WOULD ‘SHIT IN MY WIG!’ AMONGST OTHER TRAUMATIC MICROAGRESSIONS THAT MADE ME QUESTION A CAREER IN HOLLYWOOD.”
Lea Michele Apologizes
Lea Michele then posted a lengthy note on Instagram addressing the comments by Samantha Marie Ware. She acknowledged that she “acted in ways that hurt other people,” while stating that she did not recall the specific incidence.
“Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologise for my behaviour and any pain which I have caused,” she wrote. “We all can grow and change and I have definitely used these past several months to reflect on my own shortcomings.”
Michele is expecting her first child with Zandy Reich later this year.
Other Glee stars including Alex Newell and Amber Riley also showed their support for Samantha’s claim. Yvette Nicole Brown, who starred in the short-lived ABC sitcom “The Mayor” with Michele, wrote, “I felt every one of those capital letters.”
In light of the events, HelloFresh announced it was severing its partnership with the actor.
“HelloFresh does not condone racism nor discrimination of any kind. We are disheartened and disappointed to learn of the recent claims concerning Lea Michele,” the company wrote on Twitter. “We take this very seriously, and have terminated our partnership with Lea Michele, effective immediately.”
