Lance Klusener named consultant coach of Delhi team
Former Proteas all-rounder Lance Klusener would be seen as a consultant coach for the Delhi Ranji Trophy team in the upcoming 2018-2019 season with former player and captain Mithun Manhas as the chief coach.
“Lance Klusener will be Cricket Consultant of Ranji Team of DDCA for One-day tournaments starting from 19th September (Vijay Hazare trophy and Deodhar Trophy) and domestic T20 tournament scheduled in February 2019,” said Rajat Sharma, as quoted by PTI on Monday.
“His role will require his services alongside the main coach and all the other coaches in the team,” he added further. A veteran of 49 Tests for the Proteas, Klusner has scored 1906 runs and 80 wickets in the longest version of the game. His right-arm medium bowling fetched him his best figures of 8/64, along with his four Test hundreds. In limited overs cricket, the hard-hitting all-rounder played 171 ODIs for the Proteas where he amassed 3576 runs and also had 192 scalps to his name. He was adjudged player of the tournament in the 1999 World Cup.
Besides the high-profile appointment of Klusener, DDCA also appointed T Anand as the coach of the U-23 team. Hitesh Jain would be the batting coach with Robin Singh Jr looking after the bowling department. For the U-19 team, Rajeev Vinayak will wear the hat of the chief coach with NS Negi as his assistant. V Aravind will be the bowling coach. The U-16 team will have Pankaj Joshi as the batting coach with Arun Singh looking after the bowling department. Pradeep Chawla and Joginder Singh would be the batting and bowling coach.
