Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad’s plea for the extension of his provisional bail was rejected by the Jharkhand High Court on Friday. The court denied the three-month bail extension request by Lalu and instead directed him to surrender by August 30.
Prabhat Kumar, the former Bihar chief minister’s advocate said that Lalu who is currently in Mumbai will be taken to Ranchi for receiving further treatment.
Kumar said, “He will now undergo treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. He will be brought from Mumbai’s Asian Heart Institute where he is currently admitted.”
The Jharkhand High Court, earlier on August 10 had extended the provisional bail of the fodder-scam convict till August 20 due to medical reasons.
Later, Lalu had a charge sheet filed against him, Rabri Devi and other members of his family, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the IRCTC case where irregularities were alleged on their part in granting the operational contracts of two hotels of the IRCTC to a private firm.
Lalu’s reign as the chief minister of Bihar came to an end when he was convicted on December 23 last year in the fodder scam case where he was involved in the misappropriation of funds from the government treasury to his state, amounting around Rs 9.4 billion.
