Lagaan clocks 20 years: Aamir Khan, Rachel Shelley, AR Rahman & others reunite

On Tuesday, ‘Lagaan’ completed 20 years of release. The 2001 musical sports film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, and produced by and starring Aamir Khan, along with debutant Gracy Singh and British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne in supporting roles. The movie was the maiden project from Aamir Khan Productions and was shot in villages near Bhuj.

To celebrates the occasion, the cast of the film reunited to commemorate the film’s 20th anniversary. AR Rahmah shared the reunion picture on Instagram and captioned it as: “#20YearsOfLagaan an emotional and proud team!”

The video call featured- Aamir Khan, Paul Blackthorne, Rachel Shelley, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, actors Suhasini Mulay, Pradeep Rawat, Yashpal Sharma, and Akhilendra Mishra, and AR Rahman. However, Gracy Singh was not present at the virtual gathering.

To mark the occasion, Netflix, and film’s director Ashutosh Gowariker will be joining hands to reunite the team of ‘Lagaan.’ The reunion titled ‘Chale Chalo Lagaan – Once Upon An Impossible Dream’ which will stream on Netflix India’s YouTube channel.

‘Lagaan’ received widespread critical acclaim and awards at international film festivals, as well as many Indian film awards. It became the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film after Mother India (1957) and Salaam Bombay! (1988).
