Nepotism debate has been a momentum in Bollywood over last few weeks. Bollywood celebs such as Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt and few other celebs were under the radar, as they were targeted by social media trollers. While the nepotism debate was already in buzz, Kunal tweeted asking for the equal opportunities in B-town. Now, Soha Ali Khan reacts to the existing nepotism in Bollywood.
In June, Disney + Hotstar made the announcement of releasing seven big films, during the lockdown. Following the announcement, A-listers from these movie hosted an online event for the audience, while Kunal Kemmu (for Lootcase) and Vidyut Jammwal( for film Khuda Hafiz) were not invited to represent their respective movies. This added fuel to the ongoing debate on nepotism. Soon, Kunal tweeted asking for the equal opportunity. Reacting to his tweet post, wife, Soha Ali Khan now speaks about the nepotism in industry.
Soha in a recent conversation with Zoom, she informed them, “I can say this much that when it comes to words like nepotism, equal opportunities, this is not something that has cropped up in the last month. It exists and it is not unique to the film industry or to India even. We can talk about what nepotism, favouritism means, how much right one has if they are a producer to work with the people they like or vs those who people think are deserving. Whether as an actor you’ve ever feel that you’ve got the love and respect you deserve or whether you would always feel that someone has taken something that was owed to you. These are very broad questions and your question will only lead to more questions. Not to answers. And it is good that these questions are being raised and that is something that should be encouraged.”
“If you want someone to be celebrated, loved, buy their tickets, see their films, follow them on social media and make them that. Because we’re in a democracy and of course favouritism exists and there is no point saying that it doesn’t. But I believe in the powers of movies. And don’t forget about it next week,” she stated further.
Kunal Kemmu’s film, ‘Lootcase’ was supposed to be released in the month of April, however, it will be premiered on Disney +Hotstar. The film also stars Rasika Dugal, Gajraj Rao, Ranvir Shorey, and Vijay Raaz in the key roles.
