Tamil drama Koozhangal a Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara’s production venture is India’s official entry to Oscars 2022. It has been selected under the international feature film category. The film is directed by debutant director PS Vinothraj.
Fourteen films were reportedly shortlisted as India’s official entry to the 94th Academy Awards. Some of them were the Malayalam film Nayattu, Tamil movie Mandela and Hindi film Sardar Udham, among others. The announcement was made on Saturday by Shaji N Karun, the chairperson of the 15-member selection committee.
Vignesh Shivan took to Twitter to share the poster of ‘Koozhangal’ and announced the news. He wrote, “There’s a chance to hear this! “And the Oscars goes to“ Two steps away from a dream come true moment in our lives. #Pebbles #Nayanthara @PsVinothraj @thisisysr @AmudhavanKar @Rowdy_Pictures Can’t be prouder, happier & content (sic).”
The movie follows an alcoholic abusive husband who, after his long-suffering wife runs off, sets out with his young son to find her and bring her back. The film stars Chellapandi and Karuththadaiyaan in lead roles.
‘Koozhangal’ bagged the Tiger Award at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam this year. It was screened at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA).
The 94th Academy Awards are scheduled to take place on March 27, 2022 in Los Angeles.
