Kim Shattuck popular singer, guitarist and former Pixies bassist for The Muffs passes away at 56. Kim Shattuck started her music career with The Pandoras. In 1991, she co-founded The Muffs later on. The band released the debut album in the year of 1993 which was self-titled. Then reunited for their sixth studio album. The album’s name was Whoop Dee Doo that was back in 2014.
The singer was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). She went through this struggle for two years. This news was told by her husband on his Instagram account.
“This morning, the love of my life passed peacefully in her sleep after a two-year struggle with ALS. I am the man I am today because of her. She will live with all of us through her music, our shared memories and in her fierce, creative spirit.”
Kim Shattuck also had a brief stint for the Pixies in the year 2013. After Kim Deal’s departure she joined the group when they were on their European tour. Her bandmates Roy McDonald and Ronnie Barnett paid their last respects to her, calling her ‘brilliant songwriter’ and ‘dear friend.’
On the band’s Facebook page, the statement read, “We are very sorry to announce the passing of our bandmate and dear friend Kim Shattuck. Besides being a brilliant songwriter, rocking guitarist and singer/screamer extraordinaire, Kim was a true force of nature.”
Even the band Veruca Salt wrote, “Heartbroken about Kim.One of the all time greats. How could anyone be such a brilliant pop songwriter, singer, screamer, and such a total punk-rock badass, and be so insanely cute at the same time? No one funnier or cooler. We love you, Kim.”
