Indian fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed was handed a demerit point and an official warning for being guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
Ahmed’s rash send-off to West Indies’ Marlon Samuels in the fourth ODI in Mumbai, fetched him the penalty after the left-armer was found to be violating Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct which deals with, “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an international match”.
After having dismissed him in the 14th over of the West Indies’ chase, Ahmed aggressively progressed towards the batter and on-field umpires Ian Gould and Anil Chaudhary along with third and fourth umpires Paul Wilson and Chettithody Shamshuddin respectively finding this to be provocative–as this could have invited a reaction from Samuels–put the charges on the speedster.

Ahmed nonetheless admitted that he was guilty of his misbehaviour and agreed to the penalty by Chris Broad of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Level 1 breaches of generally are followed by penalties like an official reprimand, 50% of the players’ match fee and either one or two demerit points.
But Ahmed did his work with the ball pretty well as he returned with figures of 3/13 from his five overs as India went on to pummel the West Indies by 224 runs to take a 2-1 lead in the five-game affair.
