Angelique Kerber defeated Daria Kasatkina to clinch a semi final berth in this year’s Wimbledon tennis tournament. This will be her third appearance in Wimbledon semi finals after a 6-3, 7-5 win over Russian 14th seed Daria Kasatkina on Tuesday.
This will be the seventh Grand slam semi final for the German. She lost the 2016 final to Serena Williams and will hope to go all the way this time around. It will be her first ever Wimbledon title if she manages to do so.

Angelique Kerber won the Australian and US Open titles in 2016. She has tons of experience which will be useful when she plays the 21 year old former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko in the semi final on Thursday.
“I was expecting a close match. We’ve played so many tough matches. We both played on a really high level. I was just trying to stay focused on my serve. It’s great to be in the semis. She was moving me very much. I was not thinking too much about the match points. I was just trying to push myself until the limits actually.”, Angelique Kerber said in the post match interview.
Kerber is the highest ranked woman left in the draw, thanks to the series of shocking defeats produced in this year’s Wimbledon Tennis tournament. For the first time in the Open era, not a single top 10 seed has made the quarter-finals at one of the four Grand Slams.
The German got the better of Kasatkina on grass at Eastbourne two weeks ago and again she was in command. She finished off the first set with ease before landing an early break in the second. On the other hand, Kasatkina was aspiring for the first Grand Slam semi final at such a young age. She pushed Kerber hard in the closing stages before the German finally sealed the game.
