A legislator in Kerala PC George, made a controversial remark saying nun a prostitute, who is seeking an action against her repetitive sexual assault by a Jalandhar based bishop. George is an Independent MLA said, there is no doubt that nun is a prostitute if she is not, then why she didn’t complain for the first time?
He said, “No one has doubt that the nun is a prostitute. Twelve times she enjoyed it and the 13th time it is rape? Why didn’t she complain the first time? (sic).”
In July this year, the nun had lodged a rape and sexual assault complaint against a Jalandhar bishop in Punjab. Who reportedly raped her on several occasions. According to the nun, whenever he would come to Kerala for official work he would rape her. The case gained momentum when the media reported the case and an investigation was launched under public pressure.
In August, the investigation team had gone all the way to Jalandhar to record his statement. Following the questioning, the Kerala Police returned, saying they need more clarity on the nun’s statement. However, it’s been three weeks the investigation team returned to Kerala, but they did not yet record nun’s fresh statement. Following which, the nun has decided to move to Kerala High court to seek bishop arrest.
On Saturday, a group of nuns, along with the Joint Christian Council, staged a protest demanding the bishop’s immediate arrest. Five nuns from the convent in Kuravilangad, who are supporting the complainant, protested outside the Kerala High Court, seeking justice. These angry nuns said, not only Church but also the state government disappointed us.
