Kentaro Miura, creator of Berserk, passes away at 54
On May 6, Japanese manga artist, Kentaro Miura passed away at the age of 54.
In a shocking turn of events, Japanese manga artist Kentaro Miura who was best known for his popular dark fantasy manga Berserk, which began serialization in 1989 is no more! He passed away on May 6, due to acute aortic dissection at age 54. This news came as a thunderbolt to the fans of the anime world.
On May 20, 2021, Hakusensha, the publishing company behind Berserk took to their official Twitter handle to announce Kentaro Miura’s death.
The tweet which is in Japanese translates to, “[Report of the death of Professor Kentaro Miura] Dr. Kentaro Miura, the author of “Berserk”, passed away on May 6, 2021, due to acute aortic dissection. We would like to express our utmost respect and gratitude to Dr. Miura’s painting work and pray for his soul. May 20, 2021, Hakusensha Co., Ltd. Young Animal Editorial Department”

『ベルセルク』の作者である三浦建太郎先生が、2021年5月6日、急性大動脈解離のため、ご逝去されました。三浦先生の画業に最大の敬意と感謝を表しますとともに、心よりご冥福をお祈りいたします。

Soon after the news emerged online, Fans of the manga creator were heartbroken and took to their Twitter handles to mourn the loss and thank him for his work.
In 1976, at the early age of 10, Miura made his first manga, entitled Miuranger, that was published for his classmates in a school publication; the manga ended up spanning 40 volumes. He soon entered the field professionally at the age of 18, when he began working as an assistant to George Morikawa, the creator of Hajime No Ippo.
