DMK Supremo Karunanidhi passed away at the age of 94. The Tamil Nadu government has declared a public holiday on Wednesday and the state will observe a seven-day mourning period to honour the late Chief Minister. His funeral is expected to take place on Marina Beach tomorrow. Schools, colleges and multiplexes are expected to be shut down tomorrow.
Karunanidhi was battling for his life since the past few days and was admitted to the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai. He was in the hospital for 11 days where he was being treated for age-related health issues. Karunanidhi, born on 3rd June 1924 in Thirukkuvalai village in Nagapattinam district, as a son of Muthuvelu and Anju. Karunanidhi was more interested in drama, poetry, and literature during his school season. Karunanidhi, who was inspired by the speaker Azhagirisamy, considered the pillar of the Justice Party, completely engaged in social movements at a young age of 14.
Karunanidhi’s body will first be taken to Kanimozhi’s home at CIT colony, then to Gopalapuram residence, and finally to Rajaji Hall where the public will be allowed to pay their final respects.
