Karti Chidambaram — son of former finance minister, P Chidambaram’s request to travel abroad has been refused by the Supreme Court today. The court said, “Karti Chidambaram going abroad is not a matter that needs to be taken up tomorrow.”
Karti’ lawyer had asked for an urgent hearing saying that his client planned to travel from November 3 and needed the court’s permission.
The Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi rejected most pleas seeking urgent hearings on Friday saying, “All judges have more work than they can handle.”
Last month, the Enforcement Directorate had attached properties amounting to Rs 54 crore of Karti Chidambaram in India, United Kingdom and Spain in connection with the INX media money laundering cases.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had issued a provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Properties in Kodaikanal and Ooty in Tamil Nadu and a flat in Delhi’s Jorbagh, are seized.
Meanwhile, Delhi court on Thursday extended interim protection from arrest to senior Congress leader P Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram till November 26 in the Aircel Maxis money laundering case filed by the Central Beaureu of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Patiala House Court has fixed the next date of hearing on November 26.
