The Karnataka government has revised its order of banning flights from 5 states. The state government has issued a statement clarifying that they have not banned flights from five states – Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. But are limiting the incoming flights from these states.
In a press release late on Thursday evening, the government said, “The State Government has requested the Civil Aviation Ministry to reduce the number of flights, emanating from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan to Karnataka, in view of the high number of Covid-19 Cases prevalent there. In a clarification issued to the Media this evening, the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mr J C Madhuswamy has said that Karnataka has not sought for imposing a ban on flights emanating from these places, as reported in some sections of the Media.”
Karnataka minister JC Madhu Swami said, “Karnataka has appealed to the Civil Aviation Ministry to take steps to lessen the air traffic to the State, with the sacred intention that there may not be adequate quarantine facilities, if there is huge turnout at a short span of time.”
The Karnataka government had already restricted people from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Gujarat from entering the state via road. They have also imposed mandatory 7-day quarantine for people arriving from the five states. The reason behind the government decision is that the maximum number of COVID cases is from people arriving from these states.
