Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy to face floor test today
Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy to face floor test today, which is expected to turn in his favour, ending the 10-day long political uncertainty in the state.
The assembly is meeting for the first time today after the JD(S)-Congress coalition government was formed. The House will first conduct an election to pick a speaker followed by the trust vote. Not losing their cool after Yeddyurappa’s defeat, BJP has decided to put its own candidate for the speaker S Suresh Kumar whereas Congress has nominated KR Ramesh Kumar.
Congress and JD(S) are keeping their MLAs at different locations since May 16 so that BJP doesn’t poach them. The MLAs returned to their respective resorts after attending Kumaraswamy’s Oath Ceremony. According to Indian Express’s report, once the floor test is done, the MLAs will return to their respective home constituency.
Speaking to the reporters on Thursday, Kumaraswamy said, “I am confident of winning the trust vote on the Assembly floor as we have the numbers in our favour”.
Kumaraswamy has a clear advantage tomorrow given the strength of the JD(S)-Congress-BSP coalition in the House. While the Congress has 78 MLAs, Kumaraswamy’s JD(S) has 36, and BSP 1.
