Thalaivi: Kangana Ranaut pays tribute to J Jayalalithaa on her death anniversary
On the occassion of Jayalalithaa's death anniversary, Kangana Ranaut was spotted paying tribute on the sets of Thalaivi.
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is currently prepping for a trilingual biographical film titled Thalaivi. The film is all about Jayaram Jayalalithaa, a late Indian politician and film actress, who served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for more than 14 years.
Today, on the occasion of J Jayalalithaa’s death anniversary, the actress was seen on the sets of Thalaivi paying her respects to the late actress.
Popularly known as Amma, Jayalalithaa was taken to Chennai’s Apollo hospital on September 22, 2016, where she was treated for 75 days and the former actress and politician passed away due to cardiac arrest on December 5.
Talking about the biopic, the movie will showcase four phases of Jayalalithaa’s life — from the age of 16, her 20s, 30s, and 40s. Kangana took hormone pills to get into the skin of J Jayalalitha to look voluptuous, especially around the belly and thighs. The makers of the Thalaivi roped in Hollywood makeup expert Jason Collins.
Ranaut told Mid-day, “Jayalalithaa was strong-willed; I am fiery. Acquiring her demeanor [was a challenge]. It’s a body language that I am being introduced to for the first time.”
Thalaivi will be released in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu. The biopic will trace her journey from films to politics. Apart from Kangana, the film co-stars Jassie Gill, Pankaj Tripathi, Richa Chadha, Neena Gupta and Rajesh Tailang in key roles.
The movie is set to hit the theatres on June 26, 2020
