Newly elected Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s remark about the migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has stirred up the hornet’s nest across the length and breadth of the country. With BJP already taking a dig at the Congress, the parties which are against BJP and have the possibility of allying with Congress in the General Elections 2019 are also miffed.
Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav was one of the firsts to slam the veteran Congressman for his divisive statement.
Perturbed by the statement, Akhilesh Yadav said, “This is wrong. Often you get to hear the same from Maharashtra. Why have North Indians come here? Why have they taken up jobs here? Similar statements can be heard from Delhi & now from MP as well. What if the North Indians decide who’ll form government at the Centre?”
Akhilesh Yadav’s outfit SP has supported Congress in Madhya Pradesh, but lambasted the latest statement by Kamal Nath and questioned what will happen if north Indians decide the government in 2019. It may be recalled that both SP and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had supported Congress, who managed to win 114 seats in the 230-member state Assembly.
Soon after assuming office on Monday, Kamal Nath had said that workers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are coming for jobs, which cut down the opportunities of the local youths. He also said that the state government would give incentives to those industries which give 70 per cent of the jobs to the natives of Madhya Pradesh.
Earlier in the day, BJP leader Narendra Singh Tomar criticised Kamal Nath. “He has also been a Union minister. He should be aware of these rules. What he is talking about is already in place… by making such a claim, he is misleading people,” the BJP leader and Parliamentarian from Madhya Pradesh said.
BJP general secretary also asked Kamal Nath whether his “outsider” background should also be implemented in politics too. “Kamal Nath was born in Kanpur. He received his education in (West) Bengal. His business is spread across the country. He is now chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. Such a statement does not behove him,” the Kailash Vijaywargiya said.
