The Weather forcast predicted heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday. But it has been raining beyond Saturday constantly. Therefore, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation have announced an official holiday in Mumbai. There has been a constant downpour since five consecutive days in Mumbai. Hence, Holiday was announced keeping the safety of the citizens in mind. All the offices, schools, colleges and government institutions will remain closed.
This year, there was a delayed arrival of the monsoon , the slowest onset in 45 years. The economic capital has received 550 mm of rainfall in two days. This is the highest over a two-day period in a decade.
The BMC have been Tweeting about the same. Maharashtra Legislative Assembly member Ashish Shelar also Tweeted about the holiday, officially confirming it.

The Meteorological Department warned of “extremely heavy” rainfall in adjoining areas of Thane and Palghar on July 2, 4 and 5. Private weather agency Skymet said Mumbai is at “serious risk of flooding” between July 3 and 5. “Close to 200 mm or more rain per day is likely during this period, which could hamper normal life,” it said.
Borivali-Mira Road-Virar section is being closely monitored by senior railway officials in the wake of heavy rains and high tide.
Another Tweet by the CMO Maharashtra predicted heavy rainfall for the next three days.
Now, it has been predicted that there will be a heavy rainfall till 5th July. Hoping that all the Mumbaikars stay safe and secure amidst this heavy rainfall.
