Journalist Vikram Joshi was shot at in Ghaziabad near Delhi last night. The incident took place around 10.28 pm in Vijay Nagar area of Ghaziabad. The journalist was riding his two-wheelers along with his two daughters after reportedly visiting his sister’s house. A group of men assaulted him and opened fire at him. The journalist associated with Jan Sagar Today received bullet injury on his head.
As reported by sources to NDTV, Vikram, who suffered a bullet injury to his head, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. He is reported to be in critical condition.
Five persons, including the main accused who opened fire, have been arrested. All of them were known to Mr. Joshi’s family. A local beat in-charge Raghvendra was put on suspension with immediate effect. He had ignored the complaint filed by the family of the victim and also not taken swift action.
An FIR was registered against the assailants by the Ghaziabad police under Sections 307, 34, 506 of India Penal Code (IPC).
The police suspect that the attack on Vikram Joshi could have taken place after he recently filed police complaint about his niece being harassed by a group of men.
In the CCTV footage, Vikram can be seen veering his two-wheeler away from a group of people standing in the middle of the road. The gang caught him and started hitting him. His daughters ran away in fear but one came back when he fell down after being shot.
