Terry, who last season played in the English Championship division 1 for Aston Villa is now a free agent after the leaving the club and was rumoured to be joining the Russian champions. But he declined the move for family reasons and put up a post on social media site Instagram, where he wrote that “I have decided to decline a contract offer from Spartak Moscow.”

He further wrote, “I have been very impressed with their (Spartak’s) professionalism. But after assessing this move with my family, we’ve decided this is not the right move for ourselves at this time.”

According to a report in AFP, the Champions League-winning defender would have been a replacement for French centre-back Samuel Gigot, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier in the month.

The report also informs that Terry along with former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien – who is also a free agent – was spotted at the Chelsea training ground.
