Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara welcome baby boy, name him River
Hollywood actors Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara welcomed their first child last month. The news of the couple expecting their first child was confirmed in May. The couple became proud parents of a son. They named him River Phoenix after the actor’s late brother. Joaquin’s brother actor River Phoenix, died in 1993 at the age of 23 of a drug overdose.
The news was shared by Russian Director Victor Kossakovsky at the 2020 Zurich Film Festival on Sunday. It was during a question-answer session post the screening of the film ‘Gunda’. Joaquin is the executive producer of the film.
“He just got a baby, by the way, his name was … a beautiful son called River, so he cannot promote it now,” Kossakovsky said when quizzed about the “Joker” star.

Joaquin and Rooney Mara met in 2016 on the sets of Mary Magdalene. They started dating soon after and made their red carpet debut at the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival 2017. The duo got engaged last year in July.
They have also starred in Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot, Dominion together.
