Here are 7 memorable quotes from Joker that will stick with us forever:
“Is it just me, or is it getting crazier out there?”
This is one of the best joker quotes for the Movie. In the movie, Gotham City is seen as broken and bleak. We see Arthur Fleck talking to his social worker. He is struggling with how terrible things have gotten. He asks the social worker that is it me or is it getting crazier? The social worker then responds, “It is certainly tense. People are upset, they’re struggling, looking for work. These are tough times.”
“I just hope my death makes more cents than my life.”
Arthur is a man who is struggling in life and needs help, but the world around him is uncaring. His dreams of becoming a stand-up comedian is a tragic failure that leads him to his much darker one. Fleck keeps a journal, pens his thoughts and scribbles in it. In one he writes, “I just hope my death makes more cents than my life”.
“Are you having any negative thoughts? All I have are negative thoughts.”
While speaking to the social worker, Arthur insists that she doesn’t listen to him and only asks the same questions all the time. He knows he is sick and he wants help, but the world’s disinterest in him and his struggle causes his downward spiral.
“The worst part of having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don’t.”
Arthur suffers from severe mental illness but we see little sympathy for his condition. One heartbreaking entry in his journal reads, “The worst part of having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don’t.” This quote can be seen in one of his journal pages.
“What do you get when you cross a mentally ill loner with a society that abandons him and treats him like trash? You get what you fuckin’ deserve!”
When Arthur is invited onto the late-night show hosted by Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro), he takes this moment to debut his Joker persona and hold society accountable. He not only admits to killing the men on the subway but also criticizes Murray and others for how they treat people like him. He then ends with a final joke and murders Murray on live television in the movie.
“I used to think that my life was a tragedy, but now I realize, it’s a f**king comedy.”
When Arthur visits his mother in the hospital after finding out about how he was abused as a child, he adopts a new outlook. He says, “I used to think that my life was a tragedy, but now I realize, it’s a f**king comedy.”
“For my whole life, I didn’t know if I even really existed. But I do, and people are starting to notice.”
After the subway murders, Arthur seems to have discovered some twisted purpose. He also ends up as an idol who inspires many with his murderous actions. He accidentally becomes a symbol of Gotham’s revolution and is willing to continue down this dark path so that he is no longer ignored.
The Joaquin Phoenix starrer has been on a minting spree since its release and has already crossed the 450 million mark at the worldwide box office. Joaquin’s joker quotes are trending ever since.
