Jhulan Goswami retires from T20 Internationals
Veteran India women’s pacer Jhulan Goswami has decided to call it a day on her T20 international career according to a media release by the BCCI on Thursday (23 August). This decision from Goswami comes barely three months before the Women’s T20 World Cup which is scheduled to be played in the month of November in the Caribbean.
The lanky right-arm pacer thus ends her T20 career for India with 68 appearances where she scalped a total of 56 wickets at an average of 21.94 with an economy of 5.45. She now ends as the third-most capped Indian player in the shortest version of the game.
Her best bowling performance in the shortest version of the game came in 2012 against Australia in Visakhapatnam where she snared five wickets while conceding just 11 runs.
Goswami got her first T20 cap for India in the year 2006 against England in Derby. Her last appearance for India in T20 cricket was against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup final earlier this year on June 10 where her side led by Harmanpreet Kaur went down by three wickets.
Goswami had contributed 10 runs to India’s first innings total of 112/9 and had conceded 20 runs in the two overs she had bowled. Goswami is the highest wicket-taker in the history of women’s ODIs and is the first woman in the 50-over format to have 200 wickets to her name. She also has played 10 Test matches where she has scalped a total of 40 wickets, including three five-wicket hauls averaging 16.62.
