Ludhiana Shelter Home Case: Jharkhand Police claims to trace 24 tribal children from Punjab

Jharkhand Police on Sunday claimed to trace 24 out of 34 tribal children from Punjab, allegedly trafficked from the state. Police also arrested two people allegedly to be associated with the case.

Addressing the media on Sunday, West Singhbhum superintendent of police, G Kranthi Kumar, said, as quoted by NDTV, “We have rescued four children who were reportedly pursuing their studies in the three-room shelter home in Ludhiana and arrested two persons, including the owner of the home.”

Claiming that 30 children were sent back and the physical verification of 20 of them was made in West Singhbhum district, the senior officer assured that search for the remaining children is under process. Among the arrested in the case include — Satyendra Prasad Moses (56), the shelter home operator in Ludhiana and a resident of Gaya district of Bihar and Junul Longo. Both of them were produced before a judicial magistrate in Chaibasa and they have been forwarded to judicial custody for next 14 days.

The senior officer also informed that based on the information Special Branch of Ranchi, headed by the officer-in-charge of Anti-Human Trafficking Unit police station, Banarasi Ram, was sent to Punjab to rescue the 34 children. These children were allegedly taken to a Ludhiana-based shelter home and allegedly converted to Christianity, the officer added. As per to the report, these children were taken with false promises of education and employment.
