Yet another #MeToo story emerged but this time in Jharkhand, a women’s wing leader from Dhanbad in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s unit has accused Baghmara MLA named Dullu Mahto of sexual misconduct. Notably, the accused is said to be a close aide of Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das.
According to reports, the victim has even made an attempt to suicide by setting herself on fire citing injustice done by the party. On October 31 she lodged an FIR against Dullu Mahto.
Taking the microblogging site Twitter, State coordinator and social media cell in-charge for Jharkhand Congress Mayur Shekhar Jha tweeted a video, in which the woman can be seen crying inconsolably. She is seen accusing the MLA of touching her inappropriately on her cheeks and waist and molesting her in his office.
The tweet reads: “#MeToo moment for Jharkhand BJP. Rather tragic. Party’s women wing leader attempted self immolation. Made serious sexual harassment allegations on MLA Dullu Mahto, considered close to CM @dasraghubar But true to its character, entire state machinery is now all out to silence her.”
“This is my first warning. Give me justice or I will go to the chief minister’s office. My third warning will be in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” the woman can be seen saying in the video.
Denying the allegations made by the woman he said that it is a conspiracy against him.
In addition, according to a local media report, the woman has also said that she and her husband have been continuously getting death threats.
