Security forces on Wednesday morning gunned down at least two terrorists in Nowgam village located on the outskirts of Srinagar. The body of slain terrorists along with arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter spot.
After receiving a specific input about the presence of an unspecified number of terrorists, the troopers of Indian Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jointly launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area.
The holed-up terrorists were challenged by the troopers after which an encounter started. Three terrorists were eliminated. However, the identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists were not immediately known. The combat operation is underway.
Immediately, authorities suspended mobile internet services in the city and shut educational institutions as a precautionary measure.
V K Birdi, DIG, Central Kashmir said, “On specific info, we launched search operation along with 15 RR & CRPF. 2 militants killed. People are pelting stones. We are requesting them not to come near site so that we can clear the explosives which generally remain with militants.”

Earlier, on Sunday, security forces eliminated at least three terrorists in the Larro area of Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir. Previously, security forces foiled infiltration bid and killed three terrorists in Boniyar locality of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.
