Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital — Srinagar — witnessed the coldest night of the season with the minimum temperature settled to as low as minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, an official of the Meteorological Department said. Kargil registered the coldest recorded place in Jammu and Kashmir, with minus 9.0 degrees Celsius.
The official stated that the minimum temperature was nearly five degrees below normal for this time of the season. Also, the mercury dipped to minimum of minus 6.6 degree Celsius in the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir. Along with it, even Pahalgam health resort registered a low of minus 5.2 degrees Celsius. This place serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir.
Among other areas where the temperatures dipped below freezing point include Kokernag in south Kashmir where it was recorded a low of minus 1.7 degrees Celsius. The mercury in the nearby Qazigund settled at minus 2.8 degree Celsius, while Kupwara in north Kashmir settled at a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius.
Temperature in Leh settled recorded a low of minus 8.4 degrees Celsius. The MeT official said Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.7 degrees Celsius, while the mercury in the nearby Qazigund settled at minus 2.8 degree Celsius.
According to the MeT office forecast, from November 9 there will be isolated to scattered rainfall or snow, especially in the higher reaches of the state.
