A day after Bharatiya Janata Party state secretary Anil Parihar and his elder brother Ajit Parihar were killed by unknown assailants in Kishtwar area of Jammu and Kashmir, curfew has been imposed in Kishtwar, Doda and Baderwah area by the administration.
The incident took place on Thursday evening in Kishtwar, where suspected militants have gunned down the two leaders. The attack took place days before the panchayat elections in the state — scheduled from November 17 in nine phases. The latest killing is third such incident in last one month. Earlier, two National Conference workers and a People Democratic Party leader were killed in Srinagar.
As per the IANS reports, the two men were returning from their shop at around 8 pm and they were fired from a close range in the narrow lane leading to their house in the Tapal Gali Mohalla of Kishtwar town. The attackers were apparently waiting for these two men to return home and used pistols to target them. Soon after the attack, the BJP workers were taken to the hospital, but were declared brought dead, said police.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh condemned the attack and stated that the perpetrators will not be spared.
Citing law and order situation, district magistrate A S Rana requested the Army to patrol the area. Police is looking for the militants. Beside imposing curfew in Kishtwar, Doda and Baderwah area, the administration has also imposed prohibitory orders, restricting assembly of four people in Ramban, Banihal, Poonch, Kathua, Rajouri and upper reaches of Gool Gulabgarh.
